You may think its recyclable, but if it’s not...

Ask WasteWise Lane County

Placing incorrect items in your recycling bin can damage the sorting equipment and cause system failures.

A recent survey of Oregonians found that up to 70% of people who were certain they knew what is, and what is not recyclable, incorrectly described one or more items as recyclable. For example, coffee cups and frozen food boxes are not recyclable.

Lane County offers a free mobile app that can quickly and easily tell you if something is recyclable or not. The WasteWise Lane County app is available at Apple and Android app stores.

Now you can settle those household debates over whether or not that pizza box goes in the garbage, or exactly what kinds of plastic jugs can be recycled.

Wherever you live, follow the instructions provided to you by your collection company, and ask questions if it is not clear. Remember, If in doubt, find out or leave it out.
