Natural Cleaning Choices

A lot of us have been spending more time at home with our families lately, which means more messes.

Many mainstream cleaners contain harsh chemicals you’ll want to keep away from the children and pets — especially when long-term exposure is a possibility. Try these natural cleaning solutions using items you may already have in the fridge or pantry. If you don’t, stop into the Co-op, and we’ll help you out.

Make your sink sparkle:

Harness the power of citrus to make a cloudy sink shine. Simply slice a lemon in half and use it to scrub the sink firmly. The acidic lemon juice will break up hard water stains and help make it glimmer. You can use both sides, too — the rind acts like the rough side of a sponge, making it perfect for getting those stuck-on messes. It’s also a quick, easy way to integrate a little cleaning after cooking with lemon.

Soften your sheets, naturally:

Make your own fabric softener that features a scent you and your family love by taking a one-gallon jug of white vinegar and adding in 20-30 drops of your favorite essential oil. Before you run a load of laundry, shake the mixture thoroughly and add 1/3 cup into the washing machine. You’ll enjoy soft, static-free clothes that smell great with no worries about harsh chemicals.
